RED EARTH Mother and Child Reunion

My mother, Polly Sharp, was accepted to Red Earth, the premier Indigenous Art Show here in Oklahoma City. This is amazing. She has painted her whole life to realize this dream. Applying over and over again, she has finally been accepted by her Tribe at 70. The tenacity with which she pursued her dream is astonishing. What an inspiration. And to

follow in her footsteps with the Indigenous Madonnas gives me a feeling of solidarity. I feel like I can be folded into a new family; a family of Cherokee people. My mother and sister are in this family too. A family where justice and honor and family are sacred.
